(VOVWORLD) -The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations held a memorial service in Hanoi on Wednesday for Lieutenant Colonel Do Anh, who laid down his life while performing UN peacekeeping mission.

Do Anh, born in 1983 and residing in Hanoi, was sent to the Central African Republic to work as a military observer in 2021.
He passed away at 6am on January 6, 2022 (local time) at the field hospital No.3 in Nakasero, Kampala, Uganda.
With his dedication to the revolutionary cause of the Party, people and army and the UN peacekeeping mission, the President conferred him the Order of National Protection, 3rd Class. The Prime Minister signed a decision recognizing Do Anh as a martyr and awarding him with a certificate of national merit service. The Ministry of National Defense posthumously promoted Do Anh from the rank of Major to Lieutenant Colonel.
Deputy Secretary General of the UN, Jean Pierre Lacroix, sent a letter of condolences to Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Vietnamese Mission at the UN.
At the memorial service, Chief Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Vietnam, Caitlin Wiesen, wrote in the funeral book in memory of the Lieutenant Colonel for his contribution to world peace through peacekeeping activities.
