(VOVworld) - The Hai Phong city People’s Court on Monday opened a trial for local officials on charges of “destroying citizens’ property, showing irresponsibility and causing serious consequences” in relation to law violations on land use and reclamation in Vinh Quang commune, Tien Lang district.

Nguyen Van Khanh (former Vice Chairman of Tien Lang district’s People’s Committee), Pham Xuan Hoa (former Head of the district’s Office for Natural Resources and Environment), Le Thanh Liem (former Chairman of Vinh Quang commune’s People’s Committee), and Pham Dang Hoan (former Secretary of Vinh Quang commune’s Party Committee)  are being prosecuted for destroying citizens’ property. Le Van Hien (former Chairman of Tien Lang district’s People’s Committee), is being prosecuted for irresponsibility and causing serious consequences. They have all been sued for illegally directing a coercive land reclamation of an aquatic farm and damaging the house of Doan Van Vuon and Doan Van Quy in Vinh Quang commune. The incident on January 5, 2012 is said to be the direct cause leading to violent resistance by Doan Van Vuon’s family which injured 7 officials. The trial is scheduled to last 3 days.
