COVID-19 outbreak in central Vietnam to be under control by late August
(VOVWORLD) - The spread of COVID-19 in the central region has been gradually contained but outbreaks in the north remain unpredictable, according to the Health Ministry at a meeting of the National Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Tuesday.

Acting Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said that the number of new cases in Da Nang city and Quang Nam province has dropped in recent days and the situation is expected to be under control by late this month. After community transmission returned to Vietnam late last month, Da Nang has recorded 350 new cases.
Mr. Long said more health workers will soon be sent to Hai Duong, a hotspot in the northern region, to help prevent COVID-19 spread in the province.
“Mass testing has been extended. The number of tests performed since July 25 have been 6 times the amount in the past 6 months. We will establish labs capable of conducting mass tests in affected localities,” he said.
Vietnam has so far recorded 983 Covid-19 cases, 478 recoveries, and 25 deaths. The rest remain under treatment.
