CPC opens its 20th National Congress

(VOVWORLD) - The 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China opened on Sunday.

Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Keqiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Yang attended the opening ceremony.
Under the Congress' agenda, delegates will discuss the draft report of the 19th Party Central Committee, the draft report of the Inspection Commission of the 19th Party Central Committee, discuss and approve revisions to the Party regulations, and elect new Party Central Committee and new Inspection Commission.
The 20th Party Central Committee will convene its first meeting and elect the Party Politburo and the Party Standing Committee.
2,296 delegates representing more than 96 million Party members and 4.9 million Party organizations attend the Congress which will take place until October 22.
The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is of great importance to China at a time when the country embarks on a new path of comprehensively building a modern socialist country.
The Congress will discuss strategic tasks and key steps that the Communist Party of China will implement in the next five years to realize these goals.
