(VOVWORLD) - The first Cuba-US biotech joint venture, headquartered in the Mariel Special Development Zone, was announced Thursday.
The joint venture, named Innovative Immunotherapy Alliance S.A., involves two renowned research centers, Cuba’s Molecular Immunology Center and the US’s Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. This historic step in scientific collaboration between the two countries will research and develop new cancer drugs.
The new company located near Havana, will try to improve the drug CIMAvax-EGF, a lung cancer therapy developed in Cuba, and demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in the US.
