If no candidate wins an absolute majority, the voting will go to a second round on January 26-27.
Among the 20 candidates are former Academy of Sciences head Jiri Drahos and businessman Michal Horacek, who, with Zeman, currently top the opinion polls. Drahos, a 68-year-old chemist by training, is seen as the only candidate who could beat Zeman. A survey by the Median Institute in June suggested he could win 53.5 percent of a possible second round vote. Before the presidential election, Czechs will hold a general election on October 20-21.
