(VOVworld) - South Korean prosecutors have demanded the death penalty for Lee Joon-seok, the captain of the sunken Sewol ferry. He was accused of not making any effort to save the passengers and only trying to avoid danger to himself in the April tragedy that claimed 304 lives, mainly students. Prosecutors are seeking life in prison for 3 crew members and 15-30 years in prison for 11 other crew members.

At the trial, Lee admitted doing wrong but said he didn’t intend to ignore passengers. He said the disaster resulted from a cargo overload and an illegal change in the ship’s structure.

A verdict is expected to be announced on November 11.
