Death toll rises to 64 in China chemical plant explosion
(VOVWORLD) - The death toll from an explosion in a chemical plant in east China's Jiangsu Province has risen to 64, authorities said at a press conference Saturday morning.

The blast has left 94 people with severe injuries, including 21 in critical conditions. The explosion happened Thursday afternoon following a fire that broke out in a plant in a chemical industrial park in Yancheng city. China has been trying to raise safety standards following deadly explosions at chemical plants in recent years. On November last year the explosion at Hebei Shenghua Chemical Industry Co. PVC factory in China's Hebei province caused 24 deaths and 21 injured.
