Mr. Son said that Vietnam’s initiatives at the G20 summit showed Vietnam’s contributions to addressing global issues and the success of the Vietnamese delegation’s trip. At bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Phuc, leaders of countries and international organizations affirmed that they will work closely with and support Vietnam’s position as ASEAN Chair in 2020 and non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.

The Deputy Foreign Minister said that during the PM’s visit, Vietnam and Japan agreed to strengthen their cooperation in energy, high-tech agriculture, and implementing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), as well as accelerating negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Mr. Son added that the two underlined the importance of ensuring maritime and aviation security and safety, the peaceful settlement of disputes in line with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). They pledged full respect to diplomatic and legal process and full implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct (DOC) of Parties in the East Sea, towards reaching a legally-binding Code of Conduct (COC) in the East Sea at an early date.
