Deputy PM meets foreign officials to promote Vietnam’s ties with partners

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam views the US as one of its most important partners and wants to strengthen their comprehensive partnership, said Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh at a banquet hosted by US President Joe Biden on Thursday within the framework of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

President Biden said he has felt warmly about Vietnam since he was a Senator, and has always supported the bilateral relationship. He also expressed his wish to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

During a meeting the same day, Deputy PM Minh and Marshall Islands President David Kabua agreed to increase visits at all levels and boost cooperation in fishing, agriculture, tourism, air transport, climate change response, and ensuring food security.

At a separate meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Mr. Minh said Vietnam will support Indonesia as ASEAN Chair in 2023. The two  discussed regional and global issues and reaffirmed their support for ASEAN solidarity and principles previously agreed upon concerning East Sea issues, such as compliance with international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
