Deputy PM works on drought, salination prevention in Mekong delta
(VOVWORLD) -Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has asked ministries, sectors, and localities to take measures to fight drought and salination in the Mekong delta, a rice granary of Vietnam.
Chairing a meeting in Ben Tre province on Friday, Mr. Dung urged the adjustment of winter-spring crop and the area of sowing rice, strengthened irrigation, storage of fresh water, effective prevention of salination, and protection of orchards.
He said: “Our key tasks will be taking care of people’s lives, making sure that no household lacks water and no disease breaks out due to water shortages and drought. Localities from hamlet, commune, ward, and township to district and province should ensure sufficient water for people’s daily use. Saline water should be filtered, while the urban water supply network should be expanded to the adjacent rural areas to meet people’s demands."
