(VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on behalf of the government clarified a number of issues of voters’ concern at the National Assembly’s Q&A session on Saturday. His answers are related to the government’s socio-economic management and regulation in May and the first 5 months of the year. He said that the government will ask ministries and localities to closely follow the situation and deploy coordinated measures to achieve this year’s targets: “We will continue to implement the project to restructure the agricultural sector towards sustainable growth and expand the export market for Vietnamese farm produce. Agro-forestry and aqua-products are priority items in the national trade promotion program. We will continue to implement the domestic market development project along with the movement “Vietnamese prioritize Vietnamese products. We will also review and fine-tune policies, mechanisms and laws, step up administrative reform, and improve the business and investment environment.”

Deputy Prime Minister Phuc said that despite limited financial resources, the state has continued to focus on sustainable poverty reduction with great social involvement: “The government will steer the formulation of a poverty reduction program until 2020 with a more comprehensive view and a multidimensional criterion. Coordinated measures will be carried out to support poor people in accessing healthcare services, education, housing, clean water, information, preferential credit, vocational training, and agricultural, forestry and fishery extension. Investments will be focused on building the necessary infrastructure for especially disadvantaged communes as part of activities to develop new rural areas.”

Mr. Phuc received several questions concerning measures to support the business community in the context that Vietnam has joined many free trade agreements and is negotiating several others as well as to boost the development of the private economic sector, prevent corruption, and how to tackle bad debts. With regard to corruption prevention, he said that the Central Steering Committee for Corruption Prevention led by Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong has worked out 8 major solutions, in which the Party and state play the central role: “Institutional building is vital to prevent corruption. Communications, international cooperation, and the role of elected agencies, particularly Vietnam Fatherland Fronts, in detecting corrupt officials, are also of great importance.”
