President Donald Trump raised the issue with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the White House said.

Mr Trump's call came a day after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged the Government of National Accord to accept a ceasefire with forces loyal to the rival administration in the east of Libya and criticized the flow of weapons into the country despite a United Nations embargo.

A ceasefire leading to a political resolution is the only option for the Libyan people,” US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Twitter after speaking to the GNA Prime Minister Fayez Al Sarraj.

Turkey’s Presidential Palace issued a statement as saying that Erdogan and Trump agreed to continue close political and military cooperation for regional stability during a call discussing Libya’s issues.
