EAS high level meeting, milestone of 15-year cooperation
(VOVWORLD) - Eighteen foreign ministers of East Asian countries on Wednesday evaluated cooperation outcomes over the past 15 years and set a new direction for the EAS.

Participants at the EAS high-level meeting, part of the 53rd AMM and related meetings, agreed that the EAS offers a forum for regional leaders to discuss strategic issues and implement cooperation priorities, including improving their capacity to respond to and minimize the negative impacts of the COVID-19 epidemic, and boosting the region’s economic recovery.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said, “The EAS meeting is an opportunity for members to assess the progress of the last 15 years and set a direction for the new period.”
“As the chair of ASEAN and the EAS this year, Vietnam has made its top priorities improving cooperation to strengthen the role of the EAS, contributing to dialogues, maintaining peace, security and prosperity, and responding to newly emerging challenges in the region,” Mr. Minh added.
