At the opening ceremony, Lee Min-Keon, President of the Vietnam-Korea Multicultural Families Association, said the East Sea is the main international sea route for many countries. China’s illegal construction of artificial islands and militarization in the region have caused tension and negatively impacted regional peace, stability, and navigation safety.
Lee said the exhibition introduces Vietnam’s sovereignty of sea and islands and China’s illegal activities in the East Sea which have changed the status quo of reefs and shoals in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. The organizing board intends to ask China to halt its illegal construction in the East Sea.
This is the 7th East Sea photo exhibition in South Korea. The 50 photos on display are historical documents proving Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, China’s illegal activities to change the status quo of Vietnamese islands which China has occupied, and movements among Vietnamese abroad opposing China’s infringement of Vietnam’s sea and islands.
