(VOVworld)-Vietnam and Israel have agreed to boost bilateral cooperation, particularly in economics and science-technology to bring two-way trade value to 3 billion USD in the near future. The consensus was reached during talks in Hanoi on Monday between President Tran Dai Quang and his Israeli counterpart Reuven R. Rivlin.

The two Presidents were committed to accelerating negotiations for an early signing of a bilteral free trade agreement, encouraging cooperation in trade and business, and increasing investment in hi-tech agriculture, personnel training, IT and communications. The Israeli President pledged to help Vietnam detoxify Agent Orange/dioxin contaminated spots. Both sides stressed the importance of cooperation in maintaining peace and stability in the world. President Tran Dai Quang reiterated Vietnam’s policy of settling disputes, including East Sea disputes, by peaceful means with full respect for diplomatic and legal processes and on the basis of international laws.
Vietnam supports efforts to bring peace to the Middle East based on international laws and UN resolutions toward the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state which co-exists peacefully alongside the Israeli state. Addressing a joint press conference, President Tran Dai Quang said that his talks with President Rivlin is a great success.

“We discussed a full range of issuses and reached consensus on measures to deepen relations between the two countries. We welcome the high-level Israeli delegation and 30 accompanying businesses who will attend business forums in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city”, Mr. Quang elaborated.
“We are here to lay the foundation for new cooperation in various fields, particularly in agriculture, hi-tech, education, healthcare, cyber security and defense. I hope we’ll soon finalize negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement. Apart from trade, we wish to build and expand bilateral ties on the basis of friendship”, President Rivlin said.

At a reception for President Rivlin, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said Vietnam always treasures friendship and cooperation with Israel. Mr. Trong called for greater efforts to enhance economic and investment cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
President Rivlin applauded Vietnam’s achievements and status in the international arena.

Meeting with the Israeli President, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked for Israel’s preferential credits in areas Israel can help Vietnam the most. He said Vietnam attaches great importance to Israel and the two sides should promote negotiations on a bilateral tree trade deal and strengthen cooperation in hi-tech and the fight against terrorism and transnational and cyber crimes.
President Rivlin replied that Israel considers Vietnam an important country in ASEAN and wants to enhance cooperation in agriculture and trade.
