Egypt confirms coronavirus case, first in Africa
(VOVWORLD) - Egypt on Friday confirmed its first Covid-19 case, making it the first in Africa. Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Mugahed said in a statement on Friday that the affected person was a "foreigner" who did not show any serious symptoms.

The ministry statement said the person was hospitalised and in isolation. It did not specify the person's nationality or their point of entry.
The same day, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed improving the mechanism for major epidemic prevention and control and the national public health emergency management system.
Xi said the current fight against the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic is a major test of China's system and capacity for governance.
The Deputy Director of the National Health Commission said more than 20,000 medical workers have been mobilized for the Covid-19 fight, far exceeding the number to support the earthquake in Sichuan in 2009.
According to Chinese National Health Commission, as of late Friday more than 8,000 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospital and 1,523 people in China died of the disease.
