Egypt’s presidential election set for May
(VOVworld) – Egypt has set May 26 and 27 for the first round of presidential election following the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, said Supreme Presidential Election Commission (SPEC) chairman Anwar El Assi at in a press conference on Sunday. The SPEC says the final candidate list will be announced on May 2nd and election campaigning will take place from May 3rd to May 23rd. Al Assi said the result of the election round will be announced by June 5, and if a runoff is necessary, it will be held on June 16 and 17. As of March 30th, only former army leader Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and leftist leader Hamdeen Sabahy had officially announced their intention to run for president. El-Sisi is widely expected to easily win the election.
