(VOVWORLD) -One million rounds of ammunition will be sent to Ukraine within the next 12 months, following a plan approved Thursday by EU leaders during their regular summit in Brussels.

The first billion euros of the plan will be used to support members in sending ammunition to Ukraine by diverting current orders and going through their own stockpiles. The second half of the package will be used for joint ammunition purchases, with pre-orders starting this May.
EU leaders also discussed sanctions against Russia, and against intermediates trying to help Russia avoid the sanctions.
