EU calls on US to reconsider withdrawal from WHO
(VOVWORLD) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell in a joint statement on Saturday called on the United States to review its decision to withdraw from the World Health Organization.

The statement said the WHO needs to continue being able to lead the international response to the COVID-19 pandemic, currently and future. For this, the participation and support of all is required and very much needed, the statement added.
The statement emphasized that the main task of the international community facing the pandemic is to save lives and curb the further spread of the virus.
It said now is time for countries and institutions to strengthen their cooperation. Actions that weaken international results must be avoided. So the EU urged the US to reconsider its announced decision.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced during a press conference that Washington was terminating its relationship with the WHO. He has repeatedly accused the WHO of not implementing necessary reforms.
