(VOVworld) – Austrian police said on Saturday that some 2,500-3,000 migrants have entered Austria from Hungary after Hungary began taking people in buses from Budapest to the border. Hans Peter Doskozil, chief of police in Burgenland state, said one train carrying around 400 migrants westwards has already left the Austrian town of Nickelsdorf on the border with Hungary and a second one with around the same number is due to leave soon.

Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz said Saturday the plight of thousands of migrants stranded in Hungary, now being taken into his country, was a "wake up call" for Europe. He said the problem could be solved yesterday in a humanitarian way. He warned that this was only a one-off solution to an immediate problem and no one can sit out of this problem.

The 28-nation EU is sharply divided over what to do with the flood of migrants fleeing war and turmoil across the Middle East and North Africa. Germany has led efforts to open the doors, saying it would accept 800,000 refugees this year and backing plans for mandatory quotas in the EU.
