(VOVworld) - European Union envoys failed on Wednesday to decide when to implement new sanctions against Russia for its military involvement in Ukraine.
New sanctions against Russia were proposed by the European Commission last Friday as the Ukrainian government and opposition forces in Ukraine’s eastern region adopted a cease fire. The announcement of the new sanctions was postponed until Tuesday and then for several more days to give Moscow more time.

The EU’s delay of the sanctions reflects disagreement among EU members. Heavy penalties on the Russian economy last July have had a significant negative impact on a number of EU states.
Russia has warned it will retaliate if the EU imposes new sanctions.
