EU evacuates staff from Haiti
(VOVWORLD) -The EU has evacuated its staff from Haiti in response to a security deterioration, as armed gangs have gained control of much of the capital, European Commission spokesperson Peter Stano said Monday.

Stano said that the EU decided to reduce on-the-ground activities and relocate their staff in Port-au-Prince to a safer location outside Haiti. While essential workers are still carrying out their duties, they are no longer operating from within Haiti.
The EU is monitoring the situation closely and will adapt its operations in accordance with improvements in the security conditions, Stano added.
Earlier, the US repatriated non-essential employees from the US Embassy in Port-au-Prince and bolstered security measures to protect the embassy staff.
