(VOVworld) – The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton arrived in Tehran, Iran on Saturday for talks with Iranian leaders on Tehran’s nuclear program and Tehran-EU relations.

The visit took place amid a thaw in relations between Iran and the EU. During the visit, Ms. Ashton, who is now coordinating nuclear negotiations between Iran and world powers, is expected to hold talks with Iran’s President, Foreign Minister and Parliamentary speaker. Ali Mohammad Ali, a member of the Planning and Budget Committee of Iran's parliament said Ashton's visit will open a new chapter in bilateral economic ties between Iran and the European bloc.
