(VOVworld)- Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders has stressed that the deaths of scores of African asylum-seekers off the Italian island of Lampedusa underlines the EU’s need of a master and unified policy for immigration including strengthened control beyond the borders. In a statement released on Saturday, Reynders called on the EU to prevent a repetition of a similar disaster by combating illegal immigration into the region. He also called for more assistant programs for the refugees in their home countries as well as strengthen cooperation with the countries of residence.
