In a statement, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU is willing to remove tariffs on cars, pharmaceutical items, and other products and she urged the US to do the same with EU products.

Ursula said, "We’re ready to negotiate with the United States. Indeed, we have offered zero-for-zero tariffs on industrial goods as we have done with many other trading partners. Europe is always ready for a good deal, so we’ll keep it on the table."

President Trump said Monday that the EU’s proposal to remove tariffs on cars and other industrial products is not enough and insisted that the US’s trade deficit with the EU would “disappear fast” if Europe began purchasing more American energy.
