Under the new EC proposal for relocating 160,000 migrants, Germany will take in 32,000 people, France 24,000, Spain 15,000, and Poland 9,200. The EC will give member countries 6,000 euros for each immigrant they receive and 500 euros to the country where immigrants first arrive.
Earlier, during a telephone call with European Council President Donald Tusk, Germany and Austria called for an emergency summit to resolve the worst immigrant crisis in Europe since WWII. Addressing a joint press conference with Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the crisis is a problem for the entire EU, which should hold a special summit next week.
