(VOVWORLD) - The European Commission (EC) put forward plans on Wednesday to give Brussels more tools to respond to any foreign power threatening to harm European Union economies or businesses.

The EC said the plans will allow it to impose regulations to control foreign goods and block government contracts and research grants that benefit foreign corporations.
The new tools will not cover trade disputes which can be resolved at the World Trade Organization (WTO), or issues set in EU trade agreements.
