(VOVworld) – The European Union (EU) decided on Wednesday, to extend the expiration of the current sanctions imposed on certain Ukrainian and Russian individuals who backed the pro-Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine until March 2016.
Individual EU countries must officially approve the decision before the sanctions expire on September 15.
The EU imposed sanctions on 190 individuals and entities for getting involved in the Ukraine crisis, subjecting them to asset freezes and visa restrictions, after the Crimean annexation in March 2014. The EU also imposed sanctions on Russia’s defense, energy, and finance sectors, creating huge economic losses for Russia.
