The European Commission (EC) will hold a meeting on the issue on 26 September. European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis said the EC will focus on the analysis and lessons to be learned instead of blaming and shaming. Fifteen EU countries as well as Hong Kong and Switzerland have received eggs contaminated with the insecticide fipronil, the European Commission says.
Germany and France, directly affected by the poultry ban, have been criticising Belgium and the Netherland. Over 200 poultry farms in Belgium and the Netherland were contaminated after being disinfected with products that have fipronil, an insecticide that is banned for treating animals like chickens.
