According to a statement at a video conference, the EU thinks it should reinforce its strategic focus, presence, and actions in the Indo-Pacific to promote democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and international law. EU foreign ministers agreed to work with "like-minded partners" to uphold fundamental rights in the region.
The plan could mean a higher EU diplomatic profile on Indo-Pacific issues, more EU personnel and investment in the region, and possibly a greater security presence, including maritime security.
A detailed strategy is expected to be released in September.
