(VOVWORLD) - The EU and Turkey will reconsider a 2016 deal on refugees after EU leaders and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks about the current refugee crisis in Brussels on Monday.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said: “We focused on areas where the EU and Turkey could cooperate for mutual interests. We reviewed the 2016 EU-Turkey deal. It is still effective but we will adjust some points.”
Under the agreement, the EU promised to grant Turkey 6 billion euros in financial aid in exchange for stopping refugees from the Middle East and North Africa from flocking to the EU. Analysts say Turkey is using the migrant issue to press the EU to change financial conditions of the 2016 deal and gain the EU’s support in its war in Syria.
