EU, US yet to limit Vietnam garment imports due to COVID-19
(VOVWORLD) - Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh has said that EU and US authorities have yet to limit the import of garment products from Vietnam.

During Friday’s meeting on COVID-19 response, Minister Anh said the recent suspension and cancellation of several orders from the EU and the US was merely made by purchasers due to the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Director of the Ministry’s European and American Market Department Ta Hoang Linh said EU officials have affirmed the EU’s border shutdown is meant to protect people’s health. Goods and services to the EU, especially necessities such as food and medicine, are still in circulation so that the policy has no direct impact on Vietnam-EU trade, he said.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc also rejected reports that the US government has halted apparel imports from Vietnam.
“These reports are inaccurate. The US administration has no plan to temporarily halt garment imports from Vietnam. Businesses should seize every opportunity to boost production and export, invest more in technology and human resources, and make greater effort to expand export markets,” he said.
Vietnam’s customs agency reported that Vietnam’s garment exports to the US remained high in the first two months of this year, reaching 2.3 billion USD.
