(VOVworld) - The Paris prosecutor's office on Tuesday opened a preliminary investigation into suspected favoritism surrounding the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last year, which was promoted by presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron, who was the French Economy Minister at the time. The investigation was opened following a report by the Inspectorate General of Finances (IGF).

Earlier, the investigative weekly Le Canard Enchaine reported that decisions related to the "French Tech Night" event were made in a hurry following a request from the French Economy Minister’s office. Business France, a French public agency in charge of promoting French companies abroad, is suspected of selecting French communications group Havas to organize the event without seeking a bid. The event’s total cost was 380,000 euros. Business France has said their decision was unbiased.
