(VOVWORLD) - Europe is likely to face a flood-filled future due to global warming, according to research findings published on Monday.
The warning was released as Paris began mopping up after the river Seine overflowed for the second time in two years.
Flood damage cases from rivers in Europe will more than double to about 19 billion USD per year. Scientists said that the impact of global warming on flood risk in Europe is widespread and often significant.
The research shows that substantial impacts can be avoided by limiting global warming to lower temperature thresholds but a considerable increase in flood risk is still predicted in Europe.
