However, this number was only 69.2% of that recorded in the same period of 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the period, the number of visitors to Vietnam via airway, roads and waterway accounted for 87.6%, 11.6% and 0.8%, respectively.
In August, the number of domestic tourists reached 9.5 million, 6.3 million of which stayed overnight. From January to August, the figure hits 86 million.
Revenue from accommodation and food services reached 18.1 billion USD during the eight-month period while revenue from travel services rose 47% annually to 926 million USD, thanks to higher demand during peak holiday season. Localities have also launched various stimulation activities after a long period impacted by the pandemic.
Simpler visa procedures and extended length of stay for foreign tourists to Vietnam are positive signs for the tourism sector, especially during peak holiday seasons for foreign visitors.
Experts recommended that the sector offer unique and appealing tourism products, promote tourism in key markets with professionalism, improve workforce quality, better manage tourists' attractions to ensure safety, and step up digital transformation in tourism activities.
