(VOVWORLD) - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has congratulated the government and people of Vietnam on Vietnam’s National Day (September 2), saying the US looks forward to working closely with the country to build back better from the COVID-1 pandemic.

COVID-19 has taken a heavy toll around the world, including within the two countries, he said in a statement on Wednesday. The US and Vietnam have supported each other during these difficult times, as well as through growing health cooperation, exchanges of medical supplies and equipment, and most recently, with US vaccine donations.
The opening of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Regional Office for Southeast Asia in Hanoi provides a new platform to strengthen health security cooperation with Vietnam and the entire Indo-Pacific region, according to the statement.
Leaders of Laos, China, Cambodia, Cuba, Russia, the DPRK, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and any other countries have sent congratulatory messages to Vietnamese leaders on Vietnam’s National Day.

Many Lao newspapers front-paged articles highlighting Vietnam’s National Day. They emphasized the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the determination of the people in overcoming challenges to safeguard independence and freedom and contribute to peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world.
The Pathetlao Daily spotlighted the contributions of generations of Vietnamese and Lao leaders, particularly President HCM, President Kaysone Phomvihane, and President Souphanouvong, to laying the solid foundation for the special solidarity between the two countries.
