(VOVWORLD) -Foxconn is moving some iPad and MacBook assembly to Vietnam from China at the request of Apple Inc, Reuters quoted an unnamed source as saying on Thursday.
The manufacturer is building assembly lines for Apple’s iPad tablet and MacBook laptop at its plant in Vietnam’s northeastern Bac Giang province, to come online in the first half of 2021, the person said.

Apple’s partners have ramped up iPhone production capacity in India, and companies that assemble AirPods have added some assembly lines in Vietnam, Bloomberg said. Foxconn announced 270 million USD of new investments earlier this week, which a person familiar with the company’s operations said was for Vietnam, according to Bloomberg.
“This would be done to help Apple diversify production away from China and reduce the impact of the US-China trade war. Firms located in Taiwan (China) such as Foxconn are also concerned about the trade war and are working out ways to move production out of China and into Vietnam, Mexico, and India,” according to phonearena.com.
