The event, chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister To Anh Dung, assessed the work honorary consuls have done in recent years and set a direction for expanding the network and enhancing its effectiveness.
Mr. Dung said: “This is the first conference of its kind since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs promulgated regulations on Vietnamese honorary consuls in foreign countries in 1994. It is an opportunity for honorary consuls to meet and discuss with ambassadors, ministries, and sectors a number of issues concerning cooperation between Vietnam and other countries”.
Since 1994, Vietnam has appointed 44 honorary consuls across the world.
