Former Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh laid to rest in peace
(VOVWORLD) -A state-level funeral was held on Wednesday at the National Funeral House in Hanoi for General Phung Quang Thanh, former member of the Politburo, former Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and former Minister of National Defense.

A delegation of the Party Central Committee led by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid tribute General Phung Quang Thanh and expressed condolences to his family. Afterwards, the President delegation led by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Government delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and the National Assembly delegation led by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue paid tribute to the General.
Lao Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang led a delegation from the Lao Embassy in Vietnam to pay tribute to the late General.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc wrote in the mourning book that with more than 53 years of Party membership, General Phung Quang Thanh had devoted his life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the people and was an example of "Uncle Ho's soldier,” a faithful and exemplary communist, a comrade with full of affection, and a brave, wise, decisive and mature commander in combat.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh wrote in the mourning book that General Phung Quang Thanh had made great contributions to building and defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.
The memorial service for General Phung Quang Thanh was held at the National Funeral House at 12:30 p.m. on the same day. The burial ceremony was held at 3:30 p.m. in his home village, at Thach Da Commune Cemetery, Me Linh District, Hanoi.
General Phung Quang Thanh passed away after a period of illness at 3:45 am on September 11 at his private home in Hanoi.
