(VOVworld) – Vietnam will work to promote its catfish product image and transparency, said Pham Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Directorate of Fisheries, at a forum Wednesday in Brussels on the export of Vietnamese catfish to the EU. Tuan called the forum an opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to meet catfish importers and learn about the European market and its consumers’ tastes.

Regarding concerns on the quality of Vietnamese catfish, Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers Truong Dinh Hoe said Vietnam’s tra and basa fish are raised using a relatively modern process, adding that many companies have centralised farming areas and carefully control fry selecting, fish raising, processing and exporting.

The function, which brought together European importers of Vietnamese catfish, was organized by the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and the Netherlands’ Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI). It was part of the 23rd Global Seafood Expo, taking place in Brussels from April 21-23.
