(VOVworld) – Two consecutive bomb attacks on the army took place in the Thai southern province of Narathiwat on Tuesday.
In the first case, a bomb was targeted at a military unit provided to protect teachers and pupils, killing one soldier and wounding two others. The second attack was aimed at a military patrol car injuring a soldier. An agency involving both local police and military is investigating the assaults.
Violence in Thailand’s southern region cooled down during anti-government demonstrations in Bangkok. But recently Islamic extremist groups there have increased violent retaliatory acts after Thai armed forces arrested some of their members and seized arms and ammunition.
