Framework to implement National Strategy on Natural Disaster Reduction, Response and Mitigation
(VOVworld) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Tuesday held a consultative conference on establishing a framework to monitor the implementation of the National Strategy on Natural Disaster Prevention, Response and Mitigation by 2020. Deputy Director of the Directorate of Water Resources Nguyen Xuan Dieu said consulting agencies would listen to suggestions for adjusting the framework to implement the strategy. The move aims to mobilize all resources towards implementation to minimize property and human losses caused by natural disasters: “We have agreed on a form of evaluation and criteria for the implementation of the strategy. At the same time, we have the software to instruct involved localities and sectors on a common form of annual report. The implementation of this strategy is part of our efforts to carry out the UN Hyogo Framework of Action on natural disaster mitigation.”
The National Strategy on Natural Disaster Prevention, Response and Mitigation is part of a project on building disaster risk management capacity sponsored by the World Bank. The 900,000 USD project has been underway across Vietnam since June 2011 and will continue until December this year.
