France speaks out about East Sea dispute

(VOVworld) – Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, who is in Paris for the 24th Global Summit of Women, met Wednesday with French Senate President Jean-Pierre Bel and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius to discuss closer cooperation in trade, investment, science, technology, national defense, security, energy, culture, health care, education, environment, and climate change. Vice President Doan called for France to step up efforts to complete the joint University of Science and Technology project in Hanoi.

Bel and members of the France – Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group expressed their concerns about escalating tensions in the East Sea. They hoped that the parties concerned will soon reach a peaceful solution via talks in line with international law. They promised that the French Senate will continue to speak out on this issue.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said France is closely monitoring the East Sea situation and will support Vietnam’s push for a peaceful solution. Ms Doan is scheduled to deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the 24th Global Summit of Women.
