France supports Vietnam in East Sea-related issues
(VOVworld) – President of the French Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Elisabeth Guigou is on a working visit to Vietnam. At a reception on Wednesday, President Truong Tan Sang said Vietnam and France should do more to increase bilateral trade, which stands at 3 billion USD at present.
He thanked France for supporting Vietnam’s stance on settling disputes in the East Sea through peaceful means in line with international law and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea toward adopting a Code of Conduct in the East Sea. He said that China’s large scale island building in the East Sea has changed the status quo, threatened regional security, and violated the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea. President Sang congratulated France on its successful hosting of the UN conference on climate change and commiserated its losses in the recent terror attacks. He said that Vietnam denounces terrorist activities, causing huge casualties to ordinary people.
Ms. Guigou handed over to President Sang a letter by President Francois Hollande and said the French President wishes to visit Vietnam soon. She said that France supports the peaceful settlement of disputes in line with international law and is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in East Sea-related issues. She said she hopes the Vietnam-EU Partnership and Cooperation Agreement will be approved early next year.
