France: Teacher decapitated, suspect shot dead by police

(VOVWORLD) - A French teacher, who had recently shown students cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed, was beheaded outside his school in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, a suburb west of Paris on Friday.

The man suspected of the beheading was an 18-year-old born in Moscow and originating from Russia’s southern region of Chechnya, a judicial source said on Saturday. The assailant was shot by police and later died of his injuries. The French anti-terrorism prosecutor opened an investigation into Friday’s incident. French President Emmanuel Macron said at the incident site: “One of our fellow citizens was murdered today because he was teaching students freedom of expression. He was a victim of terrorism and was attacked in a despicable way. Terrorists will not divide France and obscurantism will not win”.
