(VOVWORLD) - French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday said that soldiers will be deployed across France to help maintain security during yellow vest protests planned this weekend.
Government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux earlier said that the soldiers, who will be deployed from counter-terrorism units, will patrol and safeguard airports, religious sites, and other areas.
5000 police officers were deployed during last Saturday’s demonstrations where protesters destroyed, looted, and set fire to 100 shops and houses along the Champ-Elysees in the span of 7 hours.
