In an interview with VOVWorld on Tuesday, French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet said that the visit demonstrates the spirit of “closing the past, and looking to the future”, while working together for the development of the two countries and people.
“This is the first time the Vietnamese government has invited France to attend the commemoration of the Dien Bien Phu Victory at the political level. France has decided to send Minister of Defense and the Secretary of State in charge of Veterans and Memories to the event. I believe that this will be a very important moment for bilateral relations because we show the Vietnamese, the French, as well as the whole world that together we can look back at the past, accept it, and after 70 years, we can become friends and stand together on the former battlefield to build the future,” Brochet said.
The 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, to be held on May 7 in Dien Bien Phu City, will include a meeting and a parade to affirm its great historical value.
