The G20 leaders promised to work together to shape up the global economy, which is falling short of expectations, by implementing sweeping structural reforms. One year earlier at a summit in Brisbane, Australia, they set an ambitious goal of raising the GDP of the G20 economies 2% by 2018. They stressed the central role of the World Trade Organization in multilateral trade, and in boosting economic growth and global development. The statement mentioned international tax reforms, International Monetary Fund reforms, generating jobs, boosting investment and cooperation in poverty reduction, fighting corruption, and efficient use of energy.
