(VOVworld) - The G7 developed countries, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, the US, France, and Japan, are discussing solutions to energy security at a 2-day meeting in Rome, Italy. G7 ministers focus on alternative sources of energy for European countries which depend heavily on Russia for oil and gas, amidst possible stricter EU economic sanctions against Russia.

According to Italy and Germany, the Ukrainian crisis can be resolved by dialogue, with economic sanctions being the last solution. Meanwhile, the US is increasing its pressure on European partners to impose further sanctions against Russia. Italian representatives believe that their energy sources are ensured even though there has been a cut in Russia’s gas supply. But in fact, no single source can tackle a European energy shortage if it happens.
